The Jazz were founded in 1974 in New Orleans, hence the team name of "Jazz." The franchise moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1979, becoming the Utah Jazz. They are currently known for their star point guard Deron Williams, but are probably best known for putting together one of the most succesful duos of all time, Karl Malone and John Stockton.

Current Situation (2010-2011)
Last Updated: January 2011
The are on top of the Northwest Division at 23-11 as I write this. You can see up-to-date information on the ESPN.com widget provided on the right, however.

Utah has done a good job putting together a team that can still be considered a contender after losing a lot of key players last summer. All-star forward Carlos Boozer, sharp shooter Kyle Korver, and defensive stopper Ronnie Brewer all went to the Bulls this offseason. With all-star point guard Deron Williams as the cornerstone of the franchise, the Jazz went out and got rising star Al Jefferson to make up for the loss of Boozer. They also aquired Raja Bell to help in the backcourt. These new additions, along with players like Williams, Mehmhet Okur, and Andrei Kirilenko have kept the Jazz competitive and a threat to any team on the way to the NBA Championship.

Team Logo
The Jazz use a couple of logos. They have most recently changed to one being the "new look" with the current colors of navy, gold, and dark green. The other going back to the original music note as a "J" and the circular part being a basketball with the new team colors. The note is primarily navy, with the tail and outer ends of the ball being navy, a quarter of the basketball gold, and the other quarter dark green (other half is navy).

The other is a green basketball with snow capped mountains coming out of the top of it. A navy ring surrounds it with "Utah" written in small white letters on the top. "Jazz" is written in prominant gold letters in front of everything else, with the "J" somewhat resembling a saxaphone in my opinion.

Jazz NBA Records/Utah Jazz Trivia

Below are some well known facts about the Utah Jazz, and possibly some little known facts about the Utah Jazz.

  • The Utah Jazz are the only "Big 4" sports franchise in the state of Utah.
  • Hall of Famer John Stockton went to college at the then little-known Gonzaga College.
  • John Stockton holds the record for most career assists, with 15,806.
  • Stockton also holds the record for most career steals, 3,265.
  • Karl Malone was nicknamed the "Mailman" for his consistent play, because "the mailman always delivers."
