NBA Teams

The NBA has come a long way since it was founded in 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and then became the NBA (National Basketball Association) in 1949. Now the NBA is recognized as the most dominant men's basketball league in the world, with players coming from all over the world to play against the best. Currently there are 30 NBA teams, which are split up into two conferences of three divisions each.

Northwest Division

• Denver Nuggets
• Minnesota Timberwolves
• Oklahoma City Thunder
• Portland Trailblazers
• Utah Jazz

• Golden State Warriors
• Los Angeles Clippers
• Los Angeles Lakers
• Phoenix Suns
• Sacramento Kings

• Dallas Mavericks
• Houston Rockets
• Memphis Grizzlies
• New Orleans Hornets
• San Antonio Spurs

Note that some of the team mascots don't seem to make sense for the city in which they are associated, and others don't seem to fit into their division. This is because many NBA teams have changed cities since they were originally formed, the most recent being the Oklahoma City Thunder. This team is actually in the Northwest Division because it previously resided in Seattle, WA. Other examples from the past include the L.A. Lakers moving from Minneapolis (hence the "Lakers"), and the Utah Jazz moving from New Orleans (therefore adopting the team name, "Jazz").

There are only four teams in the NBA whose team name does not end with an "s":

4. Utah Jazz
